Foley's Take: Week of 09/07/26

🎾 The US Open women's semifinals are set, and it's deja'vu all over again (#dadjokes). Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula meet for the third year in a row at this tournament, 2024 final and 2025 semifinal - both won by Saby. But hold on to your Honey Deuce because Pegula won their last meeting in Berlin so the tides may be turning. On the other side, red hot Coco Gauff takes on Elena Rybakina (head-to-head tied 1-1) who just locked up the world No. 1 ranking for the first time in her career. Winner: anyone who loves a good slugfest. Loser: the tennis balls. Semifinals 7 p.m. ET Thursday, the final on Saturday at 4 p.m. ET, both on ESPN.

âšľ Women haven't had a lasting pro baseball league since the golden age of the AAGPBL, so season one of the WPBL has been one for the history books. But all of that nostalgia gets tossed out the window because it's the playoffs, baby! Win or go home. No. 2 New York and league home run co-leader Denae Benites face a loaded No. 3 Los Angeles squad featuring Ashton Lansdell, Ayami Sato and Mo'ne Davis tonight at 7 p.m. ET, opening their best-of-three series. Meanwhile No. 1 San Francisco, led by Kelsie Whitmore, and No. 4 Boston, led by team captain Alli Schroder, are already underway, with their series continuing Friday at 6 p.m. ET. Game 3's, if needed, land Sunday and Monday. The winners meet in the first-ever WPBL Championship Series starting September 16, streaming on ESPN+.

⛳ And just like that, it's been two years. The Solheim Cup is back and Team USA is heading into enemy territory. Friday through Sunday, 12 Americans face 12 Europeans at Bernardus Golf in the Netherlands. Think Ryder Cup, same high stakes, same format, but the women get a fraction of the attention, and no money. World No. 1 Nelly Korda leads the charge, joined by Rose Zhang, Angel Yin, Jennifer Kupcho and Megan Khang. Team USA holds the overall series record and is the defending champ after 2024, but here's the twist, they haven't won on European soil since 2015, so this one's personal. Foursomes and four-ball carry Friday and Saturday, then it all comes down to Sunday singles, 12 matches, winner takes the Cup. Catch it on Golf Channel, Friday and Saturday 1:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET, Sunday 5 a.m. to noon ET.
